The National Union (Portuguese: União Nacional) is one of the two ruling political parties in the Iberian Union. The National Union rules over the Portuguese section of the Iberian Union and the party is currently led by António de Olivera Salazar, one of two heads of state of the Iberian Union. Formed in 1930 by António de Olivera Salazar, the party was founded as a way for Salazar to unify the various political groups that backed his dictatorship. The party is characteristic for its catholic, nationalist, authoritarian and lusotropicalist nature.
