While Japan had expressed little interest in the continent before the 1950s this would change after the Snipe War. Tokyo sent the 1s Airborne Brigade under Major General Kinugasa Hayao into the previously unclaimed territory of Marie Byrd Land, which would later be renamed Nobu Shirase Land, after a Japanese explorer who led an expedition to Antarctica in the 1910s.


Since the establishment of the Sectors capital of Showa Station, the colony has hosted several military bases, and became a port for both fishing and whaling ships to anchor in.
