Things started to look up for Nixon in his teens when he joined Fullerton Union High School's debate and its basketball team, however his older brother Harold developed tuberculosis that would later kill him a couple of years later. After finishing his Bachelor summa cum laude in 1934, Nixon was accepted into Duke University School of Law. After finishing Law School and passing the bar in 1937 Nixon began practicing law in Whittier, California where he met his future wife Pat. In January 1942, Nixon move to Washington D.C. to work under the Officer of Price administration. Nixon would served in Navy until 1946, when he was convince by a family friend to run for representitives in California 12th district on the Republican ticket.

After winning the position of Representative in 1946, Nixon would soon move on to becoming one of California's two senators in 1950, a position he would hold until he ran for president in 1960. During his time as Senator, Nixon would work closely with fellow Republican senator Joe McCarthy in his Grey Scare to root out suspected Fascists within the US federal government. Nixon's role in the Grey Scare would give him a reputation as an anti-fascist crusader.

In 1960, Nixon found himself in an interesting position as was convinced by the Republican party leadership to run for President on a two party ticket with the Democratic senator John F. Kennedy out of fear of growing popularity of the National Progressive Pact. A fear that given the Nixon-Kennedy ticket landslide victory in the 1960 election seemed to be a bit premature.
