The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, colloquially known during its existence as the United Kingdom, was the incarnation of the United Kingdom which existed from the partition of Ireland in 1922 to the British defeat in the second World War. It ended sometime during or after World War II as the result of Irish membership in the axis, annexing the then British Northern Ireland, and the success of Operation Sealion, the naval invasion of Great Britain performed by Germany.
