The Iraqi Civil War is one of the many wars that take place during the Oil Crisis, and another proxy conflict where the OFN, Co-Prosperity Sphere and Einheitspakt all contest for influence in the Middle East.

It is also one of the only wars to have more than 3 belligerents, as the different factions in Iraq are supported by one of the three major blocs.

Background[edit | edit source]

After the July Revolution occurred in Iraq in 1958, soon after escalating into a civil war known as the "Iraqi War" between the Hashemite Monarchy's loyalists ,Abd Al-Karim Qasim's revolutionaries and Northern Alliance for Syrian Independence and Liberation as a 3rd side to the conflict. During the war, Turkish forces would march into northern Iraq and seize the area now known as Mosul and Kerkuk, causing uproar within the Italian government, who signed a client treaty with Qasim to prevent the Turks from reaching Baghdad, then all of Iraq. Since then Iraq has been a stable state under Qasim and his leadership, promoting an identity not based of religion or ethnic group, but as Iraqis. As the war turns in on itself with constant wars occuring, Iraq seems oblivious to it all, the only exception being its poverty issue, with a majority of its oil export profits being stolen, destroyed or taken by the Italians who ship it.

Factions Involved[edit | edit source]

The Iraqi Republic, the original client state of Italy, sees support from the Italian Empire, having been part of the Triumvirate prior to it's breakup. If Italy joins the CPS or OFN then Japan and the US respectively can also aid the Iraqi Republic. The Iraqi Republic, after Qasim's untimely demise, is led by Vito Miceli, an Italian who intends to keep Iraq firmly under Rome's boot.

The Islamic Republic of Iraq aims to establish a religious conservative Iraq which follows Shia doctrine. The Head of the Islamic Republic is Abu al-Qasim al-Khoei, an Iranian-Iraqi born Twelver Scholar.

The Republic of Iraq aims to create an Iraq independent from foreign interference. Abd al-Rahman al-Bazzaz, a staunch nationalist and former member of the Golden Square, is the leader of the Republic of Iraq.

Ba'athist Iraq will aim to unite Iraq under Ba'athist pan-arabism, and are supported by the Einheitspakt. Ahmed Hassan al-Bakr is head of the Iraqi Ba'athist movement, who strives as it's main goal to unite Arabia under one flag. Should the Ba'athists win, they will join the United Arabian States, and possibly later join the United Arab Republic.

If Iraq captures Mosul and Kerkuk during the Italo-Turkish War, then Kurdistan will also participate in the civil war. It is not possible for the player to support Kurdistan. In this scenario, Kurdistan is led by Mustafa Barzani.

Apart from the three global powers, the Iraqi Civil War is another testing ground for Guangdong with a helicopter PTRG division, which can send a research division for combat testing, depending on the player's/AI choice.
