The Malayan Emergency is a conflict that is active at the start of the game. Led by the United Malayan Anti-Japanese Front (UMAJF), the conflict has been brewing since the Japanese invasion of Malaya, and a general uprising against the Japanese Occupiers.

Background[edit | edit source]

The Malay Peninsula was formerly a British colony rich with natural resources of tin and natural rubber, funding the finances of the British Empire and the Commonwealth until the war came.

The Japanese advance into Malaya, and the crippling British defeat at Singapore, led to the Malay Peninsula being filled with strife, pain and horror under the Japanese Occupation. Massacres of Chinese civilians in Operation Sook Ching, the restriction of food, illegal detentions and hyperinflation of the Japanese issued Malayan currency caused chaos.

Despite this, the resistance began. Through the Communist Party of Malaya's resistance efforts, the efforts of local Malayan Chinese and various underground groups would organise themselves. These resistance movements, despite the lack of Allied Support and the nascent help before the Japanese invasion would operate within the Malayan Peninsula, striking at Japanese garrisons and recruiting like-minded sympathisers.

The Malayan Emergency, officially began in 1952. The resistance, underground in the various Malay states, waited in the jungles whilst a general uprising was called by Chin Peng, the leader of the Malayan Communist Party. From there, resistance cells rose up in the villages and outskirts, taking the Japanese by Surprise

Originally the Malayan People's Anti Japanese Army or the MPAJA, it was renamed to the United Malayan Anti-Japanese Front at the start of the Emergency, when the communists under Chin Peng, Askar Wataniah resistance cells under Yeop Mahidin and democratic elements led by Tun Razak joined in the fight against the Japanese occupiers.

US Involvement[edit | edit source]

The United States, seeing a way to break through into Southeast Asia and the Japanese sphere, decided to arm the UMAJF rebellion through Operation Nassau.

Operation Nassau, spearheaded by the CIA, involved sending covert weaponry and aid to the rebels, a promise of security guarantees post-rebellion, and assistance throughout the past decade. However, this does not mean the US has it's own interests in the new leadership of the Malayan Peninsula.

Japanese Response[edit | edit source]

Immediately soon after the uprising and start of hostilities, the Military Governate of Shonan Marai declared a state of emergency in the entire territory, in an effort to slowly crackdown on the resistance. However, the resistance was stubborn, with many citizens having sympathies with the resistance effort, especially the Malayan Chinese, who were actively aiding resistance fighters with food and supplies.

The Empire of Japan, unwilling to lose one of their most valued Southeast Asian territories, decided to fund and reinforce the Military Governate's Army. The 25th, who had been stationed in the Malayan Peninsula since the Malayan Campaign nearly 20 years earlier. Soon, arms, men and supplies entered through the ports of Shōnan-tō.

Aided by local collaborators and reinforcements, they managed to prevent a complete collapse, however, the Emergency continued to sap at Japan's strength. By 1962, Japan is desperate to resolve the insurgency, at any means possible.

Starting Situation[edit | edit source]

At Game Start, the UMAJF and the Military Governate of Shonan Marai is at war.

Throughout the war, the US will supply the UMAJF with weapons and air support, whilst also creating uprisings behind enemy lines. The US can also send a volunteer force to the UMAJF during the war.

On the other hand, the Japanese will supply the 25th Army with weapons and air support, additionally sending volunteers to the 25th Army. Additionally, the Government of Guangdong will send a volunteer division known as the Product Testing Group (PTRG) Division equipped with a potential new service rifle by either Sony, Matsushita or Fujitsu to combat test the new rifle in the conditions of Malaya.
