The Committee for the Liberation of the Peoples of Russia (Комитет освобождения народов России). is an organization created by Andrey Vlasov in Berlin. Generally used to refer to the military junta stationed in Samara

Their goal, as described in the Smolensk Manifesto, is to eliminate Bolshevism and forge a new anti-Bolshevik Russia. While the goals of how a post-communist system of governance should be set up are different, leading to a split of factions, they all agree in their zeal that Bolshevism must be eradicated and to put Russia first and foremost..

They fought alongside with Nazis during the West Russian War, earning them the status of traitors by the Russian people.

History[edit | edit source]

During World War II, at the height of conflict between Nikolai Bukharin's Soviet Union and Adolf Hitler's Greater Germanic Reich, many Russians were held captive as prisoners of war, with many losing faith in the communist ideology in the process.

Seeing it as a waste of potential in prisons and concentration camps, the German OKW with urging of captured Red Army officers decided to create a special anti-communist battalions made out of Russian POWs captured during the war alongside eager fascist volunteers.

In 1944, the Wehrmacht created the Committee for the Liberation of the Peoples of Russia, with the main goal to rid of Russia from Bolshevism. In reality however, it was nothing more than a false promise for the Russians, as the KONR was directly tied to the Wehrmacht military administration.

Soon, the war came to an end with a German victory, and thus the use of the KONR was relegated, reduced to simply hunting down partisans in the occupied regions of Russia, thus becoming one of the most hated factions in entire Russia. So far, the Committee was united, but not for long.

The Committee Splits[edit | edit source]

The Committee before the West Russian War held the leadership of two major militaries; the Russian Liberation Army (Русская Освободительная Армия/RОА), led by Andrey Vlasov and the Russian National Liberation Army (Русская Освободительная Народная Армия/RОNА), led by Bronislav Kaminski.

On the surface, an outsiider would think that they were allies, due to both of them being collaborators. On the contrary, they had differences between them, leading to their rivalry inside the KONR

Kaminski was an adherent to a Russian version of National Socialism, while Vlasov merely collaborated with the Third Reich most likely (but under almost no evidence) to restore original Russian democracy that was extinguished by the Bolsheviks. As both men fought over the control of the KONR, the fractures in the committee would start to grow. However the split would finally occur during the West Russian War.

West Russian War[edit | edit source]

As the West Russian War grew worse for the Germans, it was quite evident that the Reich would lose unless drastic measures were to be taken into consideration.

In such desperate times, the Wehrmacht called up the Russian Monarchist brigades, the ROA branch of KONR and various collaborationist movements to assist in the defence against the West Russian Revolutionary Front.

It was at these darkest moments, when the WRRF's Operation stalled before retreating, that Andrey Vlasov founded his own unit, cut off and stranded in the city of Samara.

Seeing this as an opportunity to break free from German control, the Committee finally split into two sides, with Vlasov establishing his own government. This act of mutiny and betrayal prompted the OKW issuing a bombing campaign across Russia, disregarding the monarchists in Vyatka and ex-collaborators in Samara.

Present day[edit | edit source]

Now all alone, the KONR with its military branch, the ROA, has only one task. To free Russia from Bolshevism.
