Kemerovo, officially the Principality of Kemerovo, is a Russian warlord state located in Central Siberia. It borders Tomsk to the north, Krasnoyarsk to the east, Oyrotia and the People's Revolutionary Council to the south and Novosibirsk to the west.
The country is led by former Soviet General Nikolai Krylov, who, after a series of defeats in the Siberian Wars, has turned insane and crowned himself as Rurik II, heir to the Viking king of the Kievan Rus'.
In-Game Description[edit | edit source]
The story of the Principality of Kemerovo is the story of one man. Nikolay Krylov served as the Chief of Staff of the 62nd army during the Great Patriotic War, leading it through some of the largest battles on the eastern front. Not matter what Nikolay tried, every major engagement his army took part in ended in disaster. by the time the Union collapsed, the 62nd Army had already fallen apart. Krylov and his clique of officers fled east, eventually finding themselves in the newly founded Central Siberian Republic. There he was charged with defeating the Siberian Black Army, who dealt him yet another humiliation on the battlefield. The last straw was when one of his closest lieutenants betrayed him and seized the city of Krasnoyarsk. Unable to cope, Krylov's psyche shattered.
When his subordinates next saw their general, he was a changed man. He announced that he had experienced a revelation. He was the heir of Rurik, first Tsar of the Rus, and it was his destiny to reunite Russia. The newly crowned Rurik II quickly drew significant attention as men flocked to his banner, drawn by promises of loot and his unusual ideology. Rurik II is not like the monarchs of old. He has promised to be a Tsar of the Soviets, defending the proletarian revolution as the king of the workers and peasants. He has denounced Christianity and condemned the Romanov dynasty as traitors to the Russian people. No one knows what a Russia reunited by Rurik would look like, least of all himself, but as the Tsar prepares for war the world may soon find out...
History[edit | edit source]
Our Slice of Siberia[edit | edit source]
The General's Fiefdom[edit | edit source]
It is no surprise that the many defeats suffered by Russia have broken the spirit of her people. Siberia is filled with nationalist warlords, Red Army remnants, fascists... and Kemerovo.
Originally a part of the Central Siberian Republic, the Siberian Wars saw any semblance of order crumble. And when proud men raised their own flags over the cities, declaring independence from the central government, Major General Nikolai Ivanovich Krylov secured a fiefdom for his cause.
The King's Burden[edit | edit source]
Hammer, Sickle and a... Crown?[edit | edit source]
The Kingdom of Siberia follows an odd doctrine of maintaining certain socialist elements, such as labor unions, but mixes them with ancient aesthetics and a market economy. Indeed, General Krylov now styles himself as Rurik II, in honor of the viking who had founded the old state of Novgorod.
His followers are mystified as to whether the cruelty of Russia has finally broken the man's sanity, or if the entire act is a desperate gamble to gain public support.
Yuriy & Lydia[edit | edit source]
To the outside observer, the Principality appears erratic, without clear cause and an unachievable mission: the revival of the old Russian Empire. However, Tsar Rurik II's actions are carefully guided by his two children: Crown Prince Yuriy and Princess Lydia. The former has gained a positive reputation with the peasants as a reformer and populist, while Lydia is becoming popular with the military and Kingsguard.
There can only be one successor, however, and neither child will let kin stand in the way of the Crown.
Madness or a Plan?[edit | edit source]
If the Principality of Kemerovo is to survive this age of darkness, it must carefully navigate the Siberian landscape. The mutineers of Krasnoyarsk increase their raids every day, the falcon of Novosibirsk thirsts for new prey, and beyond lies the Siberian Black Army that had once defeated the King. Even at home, dissatisfied workers toil away at the remnants of the Central Siberian Plan, but there are rumours of agitation and calls for revolution.
Tsar Rurik II must either be truly mad, or have a plan for survival.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]
Kemerovo starts with the following national spirits:
Name | In-Game Description | Effects |
---|---|---|
Esoteric Kingdom | His Majesty Rurik II is a man burning with desire to see all traitors and all despoilers of Holy Russia perish. Normally, this would be the kind of man our shattered land would need, but his mental state has led to him developing some... interesting ideas as to how the Restoration of the Motherland should proceed. Some may find hope and inspiration in his drive, true, but most of his neighbors would only see a madman. | Division Organization: +3.5%
Division Attack: +3.5% Planning Speed: -2.5% |
The Two Wolves | The King's children, Yuriy and Lydia, while both exemplary advisors and administrators, each have their own, radically different ways of governance. Prince Yuriy favors a lighter, more populist touch, and urges his father to give his subjects the power to decide their own fates.Princess Lydia, on the other hand, espouses a more militaristic, hierarchical ideal. She urges her father to closen his relationship with the military and to distance himself from the commoners, for none of them are as fit as he to wear the burden of leadership upon their shoulders. | Political Power Gain: +10%
Division Recovery Rate: -7.5% Stability: -7.50% |
The King's Unions | In a bizarre symbiosis of the ancient ways of the Rus and the modern ideals of the Bolsheviks, King Rurik has declared that trade unions will be free to operate within reason. This has, surprisingly, served the King well, as the peasants who might otherwise call for his overthrow are now placated by their state-sponsored Unions. However, if the people are given a taste of freedom, who knows where it may lead them? | Stability: +5.00%
Production Efficiency Retention: -5.00% Production Efficiency Cap: +5.00% Factory Output: +5.00% |
The Kuznetsk Basin | (NOTE: This spirit will be granted to any warlord that owns the Kemerovo state)
One of the largest deposits of coal in the world, the Kuznetsk basin provides enormous quantities of raw materials to those capable of exploiting it. Control of the basin will both ensure the security of the state's energy supply, and through utilization of the extractive expertise condensed within it, improve the efficiency of other mining operations. |
Resource Gain Efficiency: +15.00% |
The Flight East | Though the West Russian War ended almost a decade ago, Western Russia has never known peace with the Germans. Instead, life has been punctuated by regular bombings from the Luftwaffe, an unending campaign of terror meant to permanently hobble a one-time adversary.
Though many Russians have found ways to live amid this violence, others have tried to escape it by fleeing east. This steady stream of refugees has permanently altered the distribution of Russia's population, with many migrating to the far reaches of the country that remain untouched by the Nazi war machine. |
Monthly Population: +5.0% |
Legacy of the Siberian Plan | Our statelet lies in a unique region of Russia - the former area that Bukharin's, and later the Central Siberian Republic's, grand industrial project was sited. Securing machinery and infrastructure and rebuilding sectors of the Siberian Plan will provide great boons to our statelet. | (No effects at game start) |

Trivia[edit | edit source]
The original Rurik Dynasty was a noble lineage allegedly founded by the Varangian prince Rurik, who, according to tradition, established himself at Novgorod in the year 862. The Rurikids were the ruling dynasty of Kievan Rus' and its principalities following its disintegration.
As a ruling house, the Rurikids held their own for a total of 21 generations in male-line succession, from Rurik (d. 879) to Feodor I of Russia (d. 1598), a period of more than 700 years. Numerous princely families have claimed to trace their lineage to Rurik. They are one of Europe's oldest royal houses, with numerous existing cadet branches.
