Ireland is a country with a long and bloody history with it being the only Western European country to experience being colonized before the rise of the German Reich. In the modern age, Ireland finally achieved independence from Britain in 1922, but couldn't control all of the island. This lost territory would spur the Irish government to ally with the Germans in the Second World War allowing the Irish to finally achieve a true victory over the British. However, some feel that the Irish have only exchanged a British master for a German one.

History[edit | edit source]

Second World War[edit | edit source]

after a series of Nazi victories, Ireland would make a secret deal with Germany, declaring war on the United Kingdom and launching an invasion of Northern Ireland. what was expected to be a quick campaign would prove to be a slow and painful conquest, with British forces fighting for every inch of ground. however, with the fall of Great Britain, resistance would crumble, with Ulster falling to Irish forces.

Peace would not last, as Immediately after the Auxiliary Units, stay behind forces set up by London to conduct guerrila warfare in the event of occupation, would successfully activate, unlike the rest of the UK. eventually the Auxilaries would fall under the control of the elusive Ian Paisley, becoming the Ulster Volunteer Force. they would fight a shadow war with Irish authorities and the IRA.

Post War[edit | edit source]

after the war, Irish Taoiseach Eamon De Valera's political influence would only grow, with the ruling Fianna Fail becoming the dominant party in government. with the German economic crisis, the Irish economy would go through a slump. the occupied provinces in Northern Ireland were never fully integrated, but organised into the so-called "Northern Counties Special Zone", which has been plagued by guerrilla warfare ever since its creation. the Unionists however would be contained by the intervention of Neil Blaney, who rules the province using paramiltary groups and terror to maintain order.

Fianna Fails grip on Irish politics would loosen in the 1961 elections, where for the first time ever it lost its majority in the Dail Eirann, with De Valera retiring to the ceremonial position of President, and his successor Sean Francis Lemass forming a coalition with the Labour Party.
