New Zealand is a former British colony given Dominion status in 1907, now a sovereign island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The country geographically comprises two main landmasses; the North Island and the South Island. It also composes various smaller islands. New Zealand is situated some 1,500 kilometers east of Australia across the Tasman Sea and roughly 1,000 kilometers south of the Pacific island areas of the Empire of Japan. New Zealand's capital city is Wellington, while its most populous city is Auckland.

The collapse of the British Empire during the Second World War has left the island somewhat isolated against the world. Despite this, New Zealand's government is very keen on keeping New Zealand on the world stage. A founding member of the Organization of Free Nations, New Zealand participates actively within the alliance, with the alliance securing the safety and sovereignty of Australasia against a possible Japanese invasion.

History[edit | edit source]

New Zealand would see some action in World War Two, like its brother nation, Australia. Like the other British Dominions, it declared war on Germany in September 1939, with her soldiers initially seeing combat in the Mediterranean theatre against the Italians.

However, when the Japanese ravaged the Pacific, New Zealand would see further contribution to the war effort in defending British holdings in South East Asia. Her small navy patroled its waters and assisted in American efforts, whilst her soldiers tried desperately to defend the Pacific Islands.

Despite the fears of a Japanese invasion, it saw no combat on its soil. Proclaiming its own independence like Australia, it would escape the peace inflicted on Britain by Germany, with it seeking America as its new main protector against invasion in Operation Downfall.

It would see huge changes after the war due to the collapse of the British Empire and Australia's separating from the Windsor crown. Like the Australians, the prosperous trade network that New Zealand got most of its revenue from had disappeared, leaving many unemployed. However, the United States would exploit New Zealand as a market for its products, as a result of trade being restricted by the Cold War between the victorious superpowers in Europe and Asia.

With the recent election voting in Prime Minister Holyoake, it is hoped that he and his government will restore some of New Zealand’s pride as a nation.

National Spirits[edit | edit source]

New Zeland starts with the following National Spirits

Name In Game Description Effects
The Culture War - Anglo Dominance The lifeblood of the New Zealand economy flows from the Pacific. Imports, particularly from American markets, are crucial to New Zealand's economy. Thus, American culture often finds outsized influence against local culture.

At present, the Union Jack still flies proudly over New Zealand. British culture remains dominant. Still, we hear those snide whispers when our backs are turned. Are we truly the 'White Trash of the Pacific?' Or are we simply bold enough to retain our traditions

Onto the World Stage - Bearer of the Torch Whether you are the greatest superpower or the smallest observer, you must carry the torch of liberty across the entire globe. This is a cornerstone of New Zealand's current foreign policy, and it is reflected in their eagerness to join the OFN in crusades against fascism all over the world. Still, New Zealand is a small country, and its reach sometimes exceeds its grasp. Division Recovery Rate: +10.00%

War Support: +10.00%

Division Attack: +10.0%

Max Training: +15.00%

The Social Fabric - Stable The social fabric of New Zealand holds the nation together, yet there are many dangers which threaten to pull at it, strentch it, rip it apart.

Fortunately, the tapestry at the foundation of New Zealand remains strong and unfrayed. The people are united and hopeful about the direction of our society. So long as our social fabric holds, our nation shall not fall into darkness and despair

Stability: +10.00%

Production Efficiency Cap: +10.00%

Factory Output: +5.00%

Dockyard Output: +5.00%

A More Harmonious Establishment Since the proclamation of self-governance in 1907, our government has sought to represent and benefit the good people of New Zealand. So far, Wellington has done a decent job: the government is stable, Parliament is cordial enough, and the people's faith in our political establishment is at an acceptable level. So long as this peace holds, New Zealand will remain a bastion of political stability for decades to come. Daily Political Power Gain: +0.10
