West India, officially the Republic of India (Hindud: Bharat Ganarajya), - and called by some as just India- is a Democratic country located on the Indian peninsula in Southern Asia. It borders the Kingdom of Afghanistan and its satellites to the West, Tibet, Xinjiang, and Nepal to the north, Ceylon to the South, and the Free State of India (aka the Azad Hind Government) to its East.
History
A troubled past...
A model colony
The colonisation of the Indian subcontinent by the British Empire started in the 18th Century, but the true Modern history of British India, also called British Raj, started in 1858, just after the Indian Rebellion of 1857. This rebellion was caused by the growing discontentment of native Indians in the British East India Company's army, holder of India at this time. Its aftermath was around 800.000 Indian deaths.
After the war, a new system was inplemented in India. The EIC was not to rule it anymore, instead, the British Crown was given almost total power over the British Raj. After seeing the mistakes of the EIC, the newly appointed Viceroy of India, also called Governor-General, embarked on a series of "progressive" reforms, like the integration of Indians into the government, the abolition of mostly failed attempts at Westernisation, and much more... Most important of these were the Economic and societal reforms, as they constated that other primary causes of the Rebellion in 1857 were the too brutal interference with the local religions and economy system.
