Tomsk, officially the Central Siberian Republic, is a Russian warlord state located in Central Siberia. It borders the Unorganized Siberian Territories to the north, the Siberian Black Army to the east, Krasnoyarsk, Kemerovo, Novosibirsk and Omsk to the south and Tyumen, Sverdlovsk and the Free Aviators to the west.
Originally upon its establishment the Central Siberian Republic controlled all of Central Siberia. However, war exhaustion from the bloody Siberian War with the Irkutsk regime in the 1950s catalysed the collapse of the Republic as disillusioned regions broke off until only Tomsk remained.
The country is a democracy that uses a unique "salon" political system, centered around intellectualism, the arts and science.
In-Game Description[edit | edit source]
Even as the USSR burned around them, a collection of idealist Scholars, Artists, Poets, Scientists and Authors came together in a noble attempt to rise from the ashes. This experiment quickly spread through Central Siberia, and, over time, came to be what is now known as the Central Siberian Republic. Using an unorthodox rotating constitution, rewritten after each election by the ruling party, the Republic was seen by many as a bastion of democratic thought and a revival of the democratic ideals of 1917.
In the end, ironically, it was the Bolsheviks once more that brought the Founders' dreams of democracy crashing down. Facing invasion from the east, several of the CSR's constituent cities revolted, and now the former bastion of liberty in Russia is ruled by despotic juntas, rampaging anarchists, and repressive bolsheviks. But not all hope is lost - the CSR's government, located in the city of Tomsk under a provisional government led by Boris Pasternak, has survived, and as the year 1962 dawns, the President prepares to restore full democracy to the Republic.
Come then, Maestro, choose your instrument, and let the Symphony that is the Russian People play.
History[edit | edit source]
A Republic, Refuted[edit | edit source]
The Darkest Hour[edit | edit source]
The fall of the Soviet Union brought untold hardships on the people of Russia. Yet in this darkest of hours, the embers of hope could not be crushed by German militarism.
In Central Siberia, so recently developed by Bukharin's industrial ambitions, a new democratic Russian state was born: the Central Siberian Republic.
A Killed Dream[edit | edit source]
Led by the Poet-President Boris Pasternak, the new nation set out to build itself up as the basis of a new Russian Democracy, an heir to the one killed in 1918 by Lenin and the Bolsheviks.
This dream rapidly turned to a nightmare. Landlocked and unable to trade with the rest of the world, the Central Siberian economy struggled to adjust. Separatist sentiment in Barnaul, breadbasket of the Republic, brought instability and food riots throughout the nation.
Not long after, Genrikh Yagoda launched an invasion from the Far East and it all became worse, kickstarting the Central Siberian War
Disasters[edit | edit source]
Regional military leaders in Novosibirsk seceded, citing the central government's inability to win the war and end the bloodshed. In the east, anarchist rebels seceded from the failing Republic.
An attempt to recapture the area by General Krylov led to further defeats after the betrayal of Colonel Andreev and the loss of Krasnoyarsk. Broken, Krylov retreated to Kemerovo where in a bout of insanity the fallen general declared himself the reincarnation of long dead king Rurik.
Herculean Struggle[edit | edit source]
Through all of these catastrophes and upheaval, the people in and around Tomsk maintained their loyalty to the central government. President Pasternak suspended elections after the fall of Krasnoyarsk and declared a provisional government to stabilize the failing Republic. Pasternak and his advisors worked tirelessly to stabilize the food situation and ensured that some semblance of normal life could return to the capital.
Even being diagnosed with cancer, this has not stopped President Pasternak from his herculean struggle to prevent the collapse of the Republic.
Our Values[edit | edit source]
Constant Decline[edit | edit source]
Despite Pasternak's popularity, the people of Tomsk can see the Provisional Government is only able to manage to stem the Republic's decline instead of turning things around. All hope is not lost, however, as the Poet-President has begun work on new foundations for the Republic. Believing that distancing from the people and the failure to mobilize the masses into supporting the nation has doomed the old Central Siberian Republic, Pasternak has begun drafting a new constitution, one that would allow the Republic to tap into the vast pools of intellectuals, artists and scientists in Tomsk.
The Siberian Athens[edit | edit source]
The Siberian Athens, blessed with schools, universities, and salons, shall rely upon its four greatest political associations in order to achieve its revival: the conservative Decembrists, led by Russian medievalist Dmitry Likhachyov; the centralizing industrialists of the Bastillard Salon and their leader, avant-garde poet Daniil Kharms; composer Dmitry Shostakovich's utopian socialists of the Humanist Society; and the liberal technocrats of Andrey Sakharov's Modernist Salon.
One can only hope it ends well.

National Spirits[edit | edit source]
Tomsk starts with the following National Spirits
Name | In-Game Description | Effects |
---|---|---|
Formation of the Salons | Tomsk's long tradition of academic research and artistic development has recently crystallized in a very unusual set of political organization. Joining together socio-historical ideas and politico-economic theories with artistic ideals, the four great Salons of Tomsk are a dizzying combination of political parties, military cliques, avant-garde artists and social movements. While each Salon roughly approximates a traditional political current, none of them are likely to have twins in any other democracy of the world... | Daily Political Power Gain: +0.75
Stability: +10.00% Research Speed: +10.00% |
Warlord of the City | The Central Siberian Republic has been critically wounded by traitors and separatists. Now Pasternak's great democratic project has been pushed to its last retrenchment, and many doubt the Republic will see the end of the sixties. All is not lost, however, for the remaining soldiers are determined, and led by the indefatigable Marshal Shaposhnikov. The Republic still lives, and its troops will face any opposition to save their homeland! | Defense: +10.00%
Division Recovery Rate: +10.0% Stability: -10.00% |
Provisional Government | The successive disasters of separatism in Barnaul, war with Yagoda's accursed Soviet remnants, and mutinies in the army have broken the back of the old Central Siberian Government. Now, an emergency provisional government led by Boris Pasternak tries to keep the Republic alive. While the population in Tomsk have been appreciative of the efforts of the Pasternak cabinet to fight these catastrophes, the haphazard provisional government is badly overextended. The state of emergency cannot go on forever. | Daily Political Power Gain: -0.05
War Support: +10.00% |
The Flight East | Though the West Russian War ended almost a decade ago, Western Russia has never known peace with the Germans. Instead, life has been punctuated by regular bombings from the Luftwaffe, an unending campaign of terror meant to permanently hobble a one-time adversary.
Though many Russians have found ways to live amid this violence, others have tried to escape it by fleeing east. This steady stream of refugees has permanently altered the distribution of Russia's population, with many migrating to the far reaches of the country that remain untouched by the Nazi war machine. |

Legacy of the Siberian Plan | Our statelet lies in a unique region of Russia - the former area that Bukharin's, and later the Central Siberian Republic's, grand industrial project was sited. Securing machinery and infrastructure and rebuilding sectors of the Siberian Plan will provide great boons to our statelet. | Factory Output: -3.50% |

Quotes[edit | edit source]
Capitulation quote[edit | edit source]
"The Poet is dead, a slave to honor."
Origins: This quote is taken from the poem Death of the Poet by Mikhail Lermontov.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- One event will see the Bastillards create a radio serial by the name of "Welcome to Dolina Nochi", which is a reference to the podcast "Welcome to Night Vale" - while Dolina Nochi does not directly translate to Night Vale (it roughly translates to "Valley of the Night"), many of the events mentioned in the "Dolina Nochi" event are similar to those that happen in episode two of "Night Vale" (most notably a glowing cloud and dragon wanted for insurance fraud).
- Before the Toolbox Theory update, Tomsk used to own north-central Siberia; this territory now starts the game without an owner until Central Siberia is unified.
- Decembrist's Russian Unification song is composed by Georgy Sviridov, the head of government under Likhachyov's cabinet.
